Arteleku’s new space is the refurbished Santa Teresa Convent. Here and now, we want to reclaim the building, using our drawing materials as extensions of our own hands. Drawing is the freest and most direct way of expressing on paper what is going on inside each person’s mind and soul. The process starts out as a group undertaking, but then gradually moves towards each individual’s personal space, as a long series of drawings is gradually created.
We lay out the games board every day on the table and propose the rules: a set of obstacles to push us out of the comfort zone provided by the “habitual”, the “familiar”. Obstacles to help us relearn how to look. Obstacles to help us learn how to undo the lines we know how to draw. Obstacles regarding the behaviour of the bodies that inhabit the space around us. Obstacles to give shape to that which is inside us.
With the help of carefully-selected guest speakers, every day we propose different viewpoints that question the relationship we have with the space we inhabit. In the afternoons we show audio-visual material designed to serve as inspiration: works of animation, excerpts from films, documentaries, etc.
“The imagination is subversive because it puts the possible against the real” Jan Švankmajer.
