In parallel to the development and massive expansion of digital technologies and ubiquitous computing in the urban context, new conceptual stereotypes are being built for the city: Smart cities, data city, pop-up city, reactive city, sentient city. Each of these conceptualizations is articulated on the basis of very distinct priorities: functionality, efficiency, sustainability, safety, etc., but they all share the same origin: a contemporary city is a hybrid city, blending the physical and the digital, data and cement, people and avatars, the street and the social network, the plaza and the chat.
At this workshop. we shall analyze the city and its dynamics, exploring those places where the physical and the digital meet and re-thinking the public space based on the possibilities provided by different technologies: wireless networks, geo-localization, augmented reality, etc.
Through the analysis of different art, architectural, scientific and entertainment projects, which use the city as a scenario and transform it via the incorporation of technological elements and strategies, and through in situ experimentation based on different technologies, we will generate proposals, at project level, which incorporate the specific concerns of those participating in the scenario of the hybrid city.
