Event

An initiative of dynamic silence, conceived and conducted by Tres.

In general, all the 'Concerts for Switching Off' –or 'Blackouts'– involve listening attentively to the continuous sounds perceptible in a given space as they are gradually faded out, with variations depending on their situation and intensity. The aim is to create a silence that to as great an extent as possible is freed from any residual sound and light.

This progressive sound dissection allows the public to perceive all the mechanical and light components co-existing within a space separately; as the process progresses, they gradually discover clearer and more defined sound landscapes that are richer in silence.

However, this general description does not include cases in which the "switching off" process extends to the entire building and not only to one room or section of a building. Switching off an entire building has different implications and a greater symbolic component to just listening to the sound dissection of the space within the range of the human ear. Nonetheless, it is unfeasible –if not impossible– to experience each step in the process in its entirety. In cases in which an entire building is switched off, it is therefore more appropriate to talk of "live monitoring of the process of silencing and switching off the building", rather like listening to the status check and countdown before a space rocket is launched.

Approximate duration: 30 - 45 minutes.
