(Barcelona 1956) Tres, who was associated with the underground scene in Barcelona and experimental bands from the 1980s and 90s such as La T, Klamm, Zush-Tres and UMBN Aleatoria, is a visual and musical artist known mainly for his work with silence and his actions. These include his Silence Cocktails, Silent Concerts and "Blackouts" involving gradually switching off buildings and machines. His work has been shown at festivals and cultural institutions in Spain, Finland, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Poland, China and the US.
In July 2008 he performed a new action at the Galería Antonio de Barnola in Barcelona, which marked a new departure in his work. Entitled, Maldito silencio [Damned Silence], it consisted of firing forty-eight blank rounds against a white wall. Metaphorically it sought to destroy the undesirable or negative forms of silence, using the most deafening non-amplified sound available to the artist. In April 2009 Tres presented a catalogue at Arts Santa Monica (Barcelona) containing a compilation of his actions and announced the beginning of a new stage in his artistic career. No más silencio [No more silence], his current conceptual project, has arisen out of a need to consider the negative aspects of silence and to denounce it as one of the main strategies used for controlling power. In 2011 Tres set up a bass, drums and voice duo, the Fake Druids, with Ibizan musician, D. Blake.
