*Third edition of the workshop at Arteleku
The workshop is part of ART-PHOTO-FASHION, a programme devoted to the interaction between the visual arts and fashion by means of photography. Through a process that brings together reflection, production and exhibition, the participating creators will design, make and exhibit projects that experiment with this format.
It is aimed at visual artists with experience in photography and contemporary fashion creators, including students and professionals alike. In tandems made up of the visual arts and fashion, participants will develop collaborative projects at Arteleku and the best results will then be exhibited at the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa Museum.
As part of the art-photography-fashion confluence and together with their particular reference maps, the projects will link up with and freely interpret echoes of the work by Cristóbal Balenciaga, a designer who is specially connected with the arts.
In relation to the issues in the development of their projects (visual arts/fashion adaptations, staging, photography and post-production, etc.), participants will receive guidance from Paco Peregrín as a tutor for the visual arts/fashion and Gabriel Azkoitia as a fashion consultant.
Base concept
For decades, contemporary art has explored synergies with other experiences: philosophy, technology, politics, literature, design, communication, etc. It has also explored fashion, with which it shares its capacity for articulation as a language and tool for symbolic and material production.
Photography and fashion cover a growing area in the perceptive experience of contemporary society. Separately and, in particular, together, they invade everyday life to form a relationship (usually heavily influenced) between the subject and the world.
The combination of photography (as an artistic medium and a mechanism for recording/reproduction) with fashion has led to various practices that can be seen in artistic and promotional objectives and discourses. Photographers and visual artists who stand at this crossroads explore this return circuit of art, fashion and photography from the viewpoint of art, advertising and the midpoint between the two. Similarly, contemporary fashion creators join forces with visual artists and photographers to communicate their creations and extend the universe of references that goes with them.
A circuit whose influence can be seen in its gradual inclusion in the field of art and creative industries, in the undeniable artistic quality of the work created for advertising and editorial contents and the attention given to fashion photography by museums and galleries.
