ARTELEKU

Event

15/10 - 26/11/2013

As part of the “Eginzaleak / Artisau berriak” programme, the opportunity arose to develop a small-scale installation about the work of Mikel Laboa. This was done in collaboration with the Mikel Laboa Chair, as a complement to the "Laboa gertutik" exhibition.

"Gure Hitzak" (Our Words)

Jaime de los Ríos, Daniel Tirado, Iñaki Rifaterra 2013

"Gure hitzak, esan berriz esan, ez daitezela ahaztu, ez daitezela gal, elur gainean, txori ankaarinek, utzitako arrasto sail, ederra bezalaxe."

(Our words, say them time and time again, so that they will never be forgotten, never lost; as beautiful as the tracks left on the snow by light-footed birds.)

“The shapes that together create a holographically projected 3D composition are based on an analysis of sound waves. The trans-codification of sound into shape and image, from sound poetry to stamp and stone.

We capture words and notes, and then transport them to paper or give them volume. Mikel’s voice and music create their own shapes – they draw themselves. Sound has been translated into sound sculptures and robotic wood-block engravings.

Wood-block robotics is a manual stamping technique that combines wood-block printing with 3D printing. Wood-blocks are made using new technologies and are then used in the traditional manner on printing paper.

The sound sculptures are manufactured using a low-cost 3D printer, based on a holographic image.
