ARTELEKU

Event

20/06 - 21/06/2013

Taking advantage of Matías Piñeiro's visit to Europe to present his latest film, Viola (recently awarded two prizes at the BAFICI festival), we have organised a two-day event in which this young Argentinean director (born in Buenos Aires in 1982) will be showing us the rest of this work.
The screening of his various films will be accompanied by a workshop in which the director will talk in detail about the creative processes involved in each project, as well as about his tastes, his influences and his life ambitions and film-related concerns (or vice versa).

Programme

Thursday 20th
17:00 / Arteleku
Screening of "El hombre robado" (2007, 90'). Presented by Matías Piñeiro.

Synopsis: The book "Campaña en el Ejército Grande" by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento provides the framework for this sentimental fantasy focused around Mercedes Montt, a young Argentinean woman working as a guide in the Enrique Larreta Museum of Spanish Art. Mercedes spends her free time immersed in this book by Sarmiento, which she applies indiscriminately to the emotional and working lives of those around her: her boyfriend Leandro López Jordán, her friend Leticia Lamadrid, her friend's boyfriend Andrés Rademil and his suspicious female friend Clara Virasoro. Thus, plots are possible, systems are almost perfect and trouble, almost inevitable.

Friday 21st
10:00 – 14:00 / Arteleku
Workshop with Matías Piñeiro, during which the medium-length film "Rosalinda" (2011, 43') will be shown.

Synopsis: For the first time in the ten years of the Jeonju Digital Project organised by the Jeonju Film Festival in South Korea, the directors of all three films were American. From north to south: Denis Côté from Canada, James Benning from the USA and Matías Piñeiro from Argentina. Rosalinda, the short film by the director of Todos Mienten, chronicles the rehearsals which take place on one of the Tigre islands for a performance of the Shakespearean comedy "As you like it", and charts how the actress who plays Rosalind chooses the worst possible moment, and the worst possible method (mobile phone) to try and sort things out with her boyfriend. Or, in the words of Piñeiro himself: "Two different rhythms in a single body. The first, that of an actress, and the second, that of her character: Luisa and Rosalind share the same body, but not the same rhythm. During this day at the Delta, love wreaks havoc and the roles of the actress and her character merge in a mixture of love for affectation and anguish over the uncertain".

17:00 / Arteleku
Screening of "Todos Mienten", (2009, 75'). Presented by Matías Piñeiro.
Synopsis: In an estate, far from civilisation, a group of friends spend hours talking, developing their artistic projects and planning a robbery. Among star-crossed attractions and infatuations, they discover family ties with figures from Argentinean history as everything moves inexorably towards a dénouement in which nothing is as it seems. The film earned a Special Mention by the Jury at the 11th International BAFICI Film Festival.
