Born in Buenos Aires in 1982, Matías Piñeiro studied at the Film University. After participating in the collective film A propósito de Buenos Aires (2006), he went on to direct his first feature film El hombre robado (2007), with which he won the New Filmmakers Award at the Las Palmas Festival and was selected for the BAFICI festival. His later works Todos Mienten (2009) and the medium-length film Rosalinda (2010) were also shown at this festival. In 2012 he won first prize at the Buenos Aires Lab (BAL) with his film Viola, in 2013 he participated in the Berlin Festival and was recently awarded two prizes at the BAFICI festival (Best Actresses and the FIPRESCI prize). His films are regularly shown at competitions and festivals all over the world, including (among many others): Locarno, Copenhagen, Berlin, London, Toronto, Los Angeles, Jeonju and Toulouse.
