ARTELEKU

In an indefatigable exercise in pop recycling, Losier invites us into her irresistible private Dionysian dance, encompassing the cinema of Bergman, Surrealism, the routines of silent movies, the absurd and expressionism. In all of her pieces, she seeks to illuminate the margins of official culture, where artistic resistance, free and liberating, combines with creative authenticity.

The programme being presented by the film-maker at Arteleku consists of a selection of her most representative works (short films, video clips, trailers, etc.), which have done the rounds of festivals such as Berlin, Rotterdam, Buenos Aires and Tribeca and been screened in venues including the MoMA in New York, the Lincoln Center, the Tate Modern and the Fondation Cartier. They include some of her most recent short pieces, such as Bim, Bam, Boom, Las Luchas Morenas (curated by the CPH:DOX, which recently premiered at Berlinale 2014) and other works being screened for the first time here (including a collaboration with Canadian singer Peaches). The screenings will be accompanied by talks at which Losier will discuss the key features of her collaborations, her creative procedures and her knowledge of avant-garde cinema, as a result of which she has curated exhibitions and seasons in the Institute of the Alliance Francaise institute in New York and other leading art centres and festivals. The programme also includes her only feature-length film to date, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, an extraordinary portrait of the love story between Genesis P-Orridge and his companion Lady Jaye. After premiering at the Forum section of Berlin Festival (where it won two prizes), it has been shown around the world, picking up further awards at IndieLisboa, BAFICI and Cinéma du Réel, among others.
