ARTELEKU

Jaime de los Rios of ARTEKLAB and the group CsO invite you to share in the working process of Bilbao artist Pablo Ugartetxea, who will be developing a work in progress at open sessions. These will be based on the same premises as his exhibition Unarmed Victory, generating new audio-visual pieces.

Since 2012, Pablo Ugartetxea has staged a series of exhibitions in cities around the world with a special symbolic significance – places torn apart by air raids, such as Gernika and Tokyo (he exhibited Unarmed Victory at the Centro de Creación ASTRA (Gernika) and the Promo Arte Gallery (Tokyo) in May and June 2013) and places plagued by violence, such as the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, where he exhibited Surfbanismo in July 2012 at the offices of the NGO Favela Surf Clube in Favela de Cantagalo in Rio de Janeiro and in the Sao Paulo Biennial building.

His exhibition Unarmed Victory in the ASTRA creation centre in Gernika was inspired by the building where it is being staged. It seeks to reflect on the change implicit in the reconversion of a former centre of destruction (the ASTRA arms factory), making guns and bombs, into a centre of artistic creation.
