Izibene Oñederra

Azkoitia, 1979. Izibene Oñederra has a degree in Fine Arts from Bilbao University. She has made and produced a number of her own hand-drawn animation films and has also collaborated in other people’s animation projects, such as, for example, Isabel Herguera’s film Amar. She is a member of the alternative audio-visual group MAPA, which was founded in Arteleku. She has exhibited both her drawings and her animation work in Bilbao, San Sebastián and abroad and also collaborates with a number of Basque newspapers. She teaches animation, an activity she combines with the writing of her doctoral thesis on the figure of the antihero. Her first short animation film was entitled Hezurbeltzak and a later work, Una fosa común, was selected by some of the most important international short film festivals, receiving many awards and accolades, both in Spain and abroad. Over the years, the film has been featured in CCCB's exhibition Del Extasis al Arrebato and shown at the Cervantes Institute’s film libraries, art galleries and cinemas all over the world. Oñederra is one of the filmmakers involved in Berbaoc (again in Arteleku) and her latest animation film, entitled Hotzanak. For your own safety, premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2013 and is currently on the international film festival circuit. In addition to winning a number of other prizes, it was included in the official collection at Zagreb's Animafest and the Annecy Film Festival
