AUDIOLAB Arteleku began to officially operate in January 2003 (even though work had begun on the programme in 2002) with the aim of supporting research and experimenting in music, sound and listening.

Managed by Xabier Erkizia and the Arteleku contemporary art centre, AUDIOLAB organises and hosts a range of events, including workshops, seminars, concerts, conferences and other online and offline projects.AUDIOLAB seeks to showcase and back the work of international and local artists by building on research to create, develop and influence this type of proposals.
It is also a consultant for the MEDIA LIBRARY run by Arteleku and advises on books, records, DVDs and other documents involving sound.

During this period, AUDIOLAB has worked and continues to work on a long list of different projects, festivals, institutions and individuals, including:ERTZ, PLAZA FESTIVAL, 9CDR, ELEKTRONIKALDIA, ANIMAC, ELECTROGRAPH, [UN]COMMON SOUNDS, OPEN SOUND, CENTRO MEDIOAMBIENTAL CRISTINA ENEA, TABAKALERA...

In 2010, AUDIOLAB became a non-profit cultural association. It is therefore independent from ARTELEKU, but still continues to work closely with the latter.
